Prerequisites

Accomplish the following items before upgrading the Analysis Server:

• Take note of the modifications in the following components:

  • Task Scheduler - the command that runs daily. Sometimes, there is an applied filter in the data being loaded. Use the instructions in the Review of Task Scheduler Job Modifications section.

  • SSRS URI - the configured SQL Server Reporting Services URI in the Reporting page. Use the instructions in the Check the Configured SSRS URI section.

• Take note of the following information:

  • SQL Server (Database Engine and Analysis Services) with instance
  • Deployed databases names (SQL and OLAP)
  • Hostnames of Analysis Server and SQL Server machines
  
  

  Use the instructions in the Database Connection Strings Configuration section to see and take note of the SQL Server connection properties of the Analysis Server.

• Back up the Analysis Server installation directory. Use the instructions in Back up the Analysis Server Installation Directory section to properly back up the installation directory.

• Gather screenshots of the following web interface pages:

  • Email Settings
  • Mapping Sources
  • Configuration
  • Time Zones
  
  

• (Optional) Back up the SQL Server database. Use the instructions in the Microsoft Learn article – Create a Full Database Back Up (Using SQL Server Management Studio) to properly back up the SQL Server database.

Doing a full backup of the SQL Server database might require a huge amount of disk space, depending on the size of the database. If disk space is not sufficient, please skip this step.

If the SQL Server is hosted in a cluster, the usual snapshot or backup is enough. There is no need to back up the SQL Server database.

Additional Consideration

For optimal integration of the Analysis Server with Ingress, facilitating a seamless global navigation experience across Open iT web interfaces, it is advisable to ensure the presence of Open iT Ingress and have the URI prepared. This preparation will pave the way for a streamlined transition to a configuration with Ingress, ensuring a smooth upgrade process. Use the instructions in the Ingress Installation section if installing Ingress for the first time.

Installing Application Initialization is required when upgrading and setting up the Analysis Server with Ingress. Follow the instructions provided in Setting up the IIS.

Once all the items are accomplished, you may now proceed to Upgrading the Analysis Server.
